Chef Demo & Talk | Ranie Saidi

In collaboration with The Kitchen Table, we are delighted to host food writer, Ranie Saidi, to celebrate the launch of his debut cook book, The Malay Cook.

This book celebrates Malaysian cuisine through an inter-generational and international perspective. 'My cooking pays homage to my grandma’s recipes who fed me as a kid, with a twist of using seasonal ingredients found in local supermarkets where I live in London.'

During this event you can enjoy an informal talk and Q&A with the author and learn about Ranie's journey from studying law to working for some of the most well known chefs in London, while he demonstrates dishes from his book. This event includes a delicious selection of demo samples* made from The Malay Cook, all included in your ticket price!

Through poignant anecdotes and the legacy of his grandmother’s recipes, The Malay Cook traces Ranie’s journey from Kuala Lumpur to London.

Over half the recipes are plant-rich, perfect for communal dining, last-minute guests or enjoying a comforting one-pot meal on your own.

Malay cooking is a harmony of sweet, sour, salty, lemak manis (coconut creamy umami) and spice.

Ranie will be doing book signings at the event and 'The Malay Cook' will be available to purchase on the day. If you can't wait that long, pop in to The Kitchen Table in Shaftesbury to purchase an advance copy!
